GARLAND LEE GRAVES, SR. age 83, of 303 North 7th Street, Mebane, NC died Friday night, May 24, 2019 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Graves was born July 13, 1935 in Caswell County, NC son of the late Robert Glenn & Janie Love Wade Graves and was husband of 28 years to Alma Faye Scarlett Graves who survives. He previously worked for the Roxboro Police Department, volunteered as a fire fighter, was a member of the Person County Sheriff’s Department where he served as Sheriff from 1970 to 1974 then later retired from Northern Telecom, attended Lambs Chapel Church, and was a veteran of the US Air Force. Lee enjoyed camping, Nascar, and just watching sports of any kind.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Wanda G. Blalock & husband, Terry of Timberlake, NC, Sheila G. Barefoot & husband, Jimmy of Newton Grove, NC, Garland L. Graves, Jr. & wife, Kellee of Timberlake, NC, Robert G. Graves of Roxboro, NC, five grandchildren, Laura Rogers & husband, Dan, Derek Wallace, Chris Wallace, Jenna Wallace, Collin Graves, great grandson, Jaxson Rogers, brother, Bobby Gene Graves & wife, Jane of Asheboro, NC, three step-children, Angie Dickey & husband, Michael, Jimmy Riley & wife, Candy, David Riley, ten step-grandchildren, Brooks Barefoot, Ashlyn Barefoot, Chelsea Dickey, Abby Dickey, Graham Dickey, Landon Dickey, Olivia Dickey, Dylan Ball, Tyson Riley, and McKenzie Riley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2019 at The Lamb’s Chapel in Haw River, NC with the Rev. Ken Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Person Memorial Cemetery in Roxboro, NC. The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Ray Allen, Danny Curtis, Michael Dickey, Reggie Herring, Jimmy Riley, and Tyson Riley.
