Freda June (Glenn) Hamilton Hughes

FREDA JUNE GLENN HAMILTON HUGHES age 93, of 464 Shady Oak Road, Roxboro, NC died peacefully Friday night, November 30, 2018 at Person Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Hughes was born December 29, 1924 in Taylor County, WV, daughter of the late John Francis & Elizabeth Lintz Glenn and was wife of 39 years to the late Theodore Yost “Ted” Hamilton and two years to the late Edward Robert Hughes.  She retired from Electronic Control Systems of Fairmont in 1990, was a member of Valley Chapel United Methodist Church in Fairmont, WV and attended Olive Branch Baptist Church.  She graduated from Flemington High School in the class of 1942.  Mrs. Hughes was active in her home church as a Sunday school teacher, member of the choir, administrative council, adult fellowship group, and other women’s organizations.

Surviving are three daughters, Linda Sue Stalnaker & husband, Ed of Fairmont, WV, Charlotte Ann Thomann & husband, Wayne of Chapel Hill, NC, Sandra Lee Phillips & husband, Dan of Roxboro, NC, step-son, Christopher A. Hughes & wife, Jane of Freeport, OH, sister, Margaret Beverly Glenn Miller of Fairmont, WV, seven grandchildren, Christopher Phillips & wife, Katherine of Paducah, KY, Melissa Phillips Haines & husband, Nate of Chapel Hill, NC, Kurt Stalnaker of Raleigh, NC, Stacey Thomann Hamilton & husband, Tony of Silver Spring, MD, Shannon Thomann of Carrboro, NC, Ryan Thomann, and Todd Thomann both of Chapel Hill, NC, five step-grandchildren, Jonathan Stalnaker, Jason Stalnaker, Jodi Stalnaker Everhart, Betsie Walker, Katie Hughes Mitson, and a host of great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Hughes is preceded in death by a son, John Thomas Hamilton, brother, John Hamilton Glenn, four sisters, Evelyn Frances Glenn Blake, Elizabeth Glenn Hess, Helen May Glenn Leon, and Norma Ruth Glenn Powell Lough.

Local funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2018 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Dave Cline officiating.  The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Funeral services in WV will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV with the Rev. Dan Gurash and the Rev. Scott Krepps officiating.  Interment will follow in the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover, WV.  The family will receive friends and guests on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 2:00 till 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, December 6, 2018 for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
