Bailey Lomax Puryear

BAILEY LOMAX PURYEAR age 87, of 1565 Pin Oak Court, Roxboro, NC died Friday morning, July 19, 2019 at Roxboro Healthcare & Rehabilitation.

Mr. Puryear was born July 25, 1931 in Person County, NC, son of the late Charlie Herbert & Mable Sue Lowery Puryear.  Upon his retirement as a lineman he worked a number of years for H&R Block and was a member of High View Baptist Church.  He enjoyed shooting pool, fishing, Person High School basketball, and participating in the North Carolina Senior Games where he won more medals than anyone from Person County.  It is said that he was one of the best linemen to ever climb a pole.

Surviving are five children, Danny Lewis Puryear & wife Lisa Baltimore, Beth Loraine Mullen & husband, Ken, Michael Vernon Puryear & wife, Gwynne, Jennifer Ann Vinceguerra & husband, Todd, Jamie Lomax Puryear, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers, C.H. Puryear & wife, Ruth, Huel Puryear & wife, Jannise.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Puryear is preceded in death by two sons, Mark Andrew Puryear, Jeffrey Scott Puryear, four brothers, Clifton Puryear, Jasper Puryear, Lowery Puryear, Roy Lee Puryear, and the mother of his children, Ruth Geary Puryear Morris.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2019 at in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Avery Dalton officiating.  Interment will follow in the Virgilina Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests from 6:30 till 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2019 at the funeral home and other times at the home of Michael & Gwynne Puryear, 138 Puryear Street, Roxboro, NC.

Pallbearers will be Willie Mays, Ken Mullen, Mark Mullen, Robert Perry, Aaron Puryear, and Michael Scott Puryear.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
